One of the simplest beach activities is also one of the best for getting children curious about the sea.
Mark where the water reaches.
That is it.
You can draw a line in the sand, place a stick, build a little wall, or put a stone where the waves are stopping. Then carry on playing and come back a few minutes later.
Has the sea moved closer?
Has it moved away?
Has it washed your mark away completely?
It is such an easy way to start noticing the tide without turning the beach into a formal lesson.
Children can see that the sea is not still. It changes. It moves. It creeps in or pulls back. It can undo a sandcastle, fill a trench or leave behind new treasures.
You can keep it really simple:
“Do you think the sea will reach this stick?”
“Shall we check if our line is still there?”
“Look how much closer the water is now.”
No worksheet needed. No big explanation needed.
Just a stick, the sand and a bit of curiosity.
